Strike: In Every Students Curricular Activity

By NWADIKE PASCHAL CHIBUZOR.

So far in the  recent past years, the strike action has been reoccurring every year that it has to be reflecting on every Nigerian student curricular activities and seen as a factor to be considered in setting up plans.
The very pertinent factor here is that in every session, there is a time giving (but not seen in the normal curricular activities) to strike action and this most often times ranges from at least 2weeks to at most 6months.
Through the last decade, the academic calendar of Nigerian universities has been disrupted by the sessional strike repeating itself with know resolution to the problem. From the statistics gathered from a survey on the average students of Nigerian universities, STRIKE PERIOD, has been reflecting on their activities following the fact that the federal government has continued to fail and disappoint the masses on their own part of their agreement with the University staff union. The amazing part is that they (the students and even staff) see it as a period that is to be used to hustle hard for money.
Again, it is now a factor considered when setting up plans for the session as it is now seen as an inevitable scenario in every session and this is adding up the stipulated time required to study a giving course in the University.
It has been brought to the notice the students that they are not considered, while planning for the strike, and their welfare is not being cared for both by the government and the University staff union, making reference to the fact that the opinion and take of the students are not been asked for before embarking on the strike following the last two unaware strike action (14th August 2017, and then 5th November 2018), embarked by the University staff union. This fact was addressed by the national students Union Government president, but yet it took no effect. This newly imposed activity (strike) on the student's curricular activities has been so far recorded to have only but negative impact on the life of the students and the society at large, which result to the increase in crime scene in the country. As they say an idle mind is a devil's workshop.
I see it very necessary and wise that some considerations be made by the staff union before they embark on any strike again. We should all know that the Nigerian students are no fools, they should be treated like humans with good reasoning that worth being cared for. The staff union should see the students as their biological children who they can sacrifice and starve for just to make sure they are well placed and comfortable. It is truly right that you (the staff) are verging for your right, but it is best to place your request where it could be granted to you, make your request to someone that knows and understands the true value and meaning of you and your service to him and society at large. I see it unwise taking your vehicle to a carpenter for repairs, or instead calling a shoe maker to engineer the construction of a building. Surely you will be disappointed and in fact you might not have an answer from either of them. I see it as to say that you don't understand what happens when you elect your brother living in another community to head your own community where you live, of course you don't expect a magic or a positive leadership because he doesn't have the experience of the people's needs and wants. He don't know the necessity and importance of some services been rendered in the community and so might not act positively on them either. From my side, I plead on behalf of we the poor students to reconsider calling off the strike so we can get back to school.
Taking the present economic situation of this country as a prerequisite, we should all understand that some amendment be done and mostly on individual life on the side of exercising a little bit patient for the government to enable them creat a well defined style for economy circulation. We should acknowledge that our government is an old government  and therefore we should avoid putting up pressure than he can bear but that doesn't excuse the government from executing his responsibility because we are convinced that you know what to do as a government of the people, before coming out to be voted for into power. There is nothing as good as fulfilling promises, meeting agreement with staff, care and concern for the citizens at large.
I NWADIKE PASCHAL CHIBUZOR, plead both to the government and staff to act with care and care as you act towards each other, mostly for the poor student citizens.
